well, all the votes haven't come in yet, but here are a few runner's up:

best garden burger

capa de oro
(in eldorado)

update: after the restaurant sold and became "under new management," the quality of this product has gone down horribly. the patties used to be fried and were quite moist. now they are just heated from a frozen patty. quite unremarkable.

there are other options in town. will update occasionally.

tornado deja vu

well, it looks like someone actually did their research on tornadoes in santa fe this time, instead jumping to conclusions, like everyone did on saturday with our "first time ever" tornado. there were tornadoes in santa fe before last saturday. here's something from the newmexican, "the west's oldest newspaper," but certainly not the best (most of the articles are edited briefs from the associated press and edited incorrectly):

"TORNADOES IN NEW MEXICO

Compared to other states, New Mexico ranks 40th in the frequency of tornadoes per
square mile and 36th for fatalities.

Between 1950 and 1995, 399 tornadoes were reported in the state. In that time, there
were three tornado-related deaths and 105 injuries; the total cost was estimated at
$26 million.

In Santa Fe County, there were 18 tornadoes reported between 1883 and 1991. One
death and eight injuries, all in 1974, were recorded.

A tornado killed two men at an auto repair garage in Wagon Mound in 1930. One person died, eight were injured and more than 50 homes were destroyed when a tornado moved through Maxwell, Colfax County in 1964. Six people were injured in Carlsbad in 1992 when the roof of a restaurant collapsed after a tornado swept through. And five people were injured and 11 homes and seven businesses were destroyed in Cimarron during a 1996 tornado.
