BIOFUELS •• algae

BIOFUELS

algae is the future.

scientists are researching different strands to produce algae to accumulate and produce:

SUGARS -> fermentation -> alcohol -> JET FUEL

FATTY ACIDS -> DIESEL

ETHANOL

STARCH -> HYDROGEN

3 gal of water used to produce 1 gal of fuel

vs

6000 gal of water used to produce 1 gal of ethanol

as CO2 increases, so does the algae production.

the most efficient way to grow algae for biofuels is in vertical tubes.

this greatly reduces the overall foot print of land use required, unlike soy, corn, sugar cane and switch grass.

to satisfy the entire US fuel requirements, 25% of the state of arizona could grow algae,

or 50% of the entire country of the US could grow soy,

or 80% of the entire country of the US could grow corn.

a high percentage of the plant is used for biofuels, unlike corn.

all of the leftovers of algae biofuel production can be reused into feed, fertilizer and building materials.

the only drawback now is cost, 30.00/gal, but mass production will drive this price down.
